Following a disappointing defeat to Bangladesh, the ICC penalized the Pakistan cricket team.
After losing to the Bangla Tigers in the Rawalpindi Test, Pakistan dropped in the World Test Championship standings and incurred a financial penalty. The team was docked six points from the Championship for failing to bowl six overs, and the players were fined 30% of their match fees.
This loss marked Bangladesh’s first-ever Test victory over Pakistan on Pakistani soil, a significant achievement that allowed Bangladesh to ascend two spots in the ICC World Test Championship rankings. As a result, Pakistan’s ranking plummeted by two positions.

The impact of this defeat extends beyond the immediate penalties. Pakistan’s prospects of qualifying for the ICC Test Championship final next year have dimmed considerably. The team’s lacklustre performance led to losing 12 crucial points in the Championship cycle and falling to eighth place in the rankings, just above the West Indies. Before this series, Pakistan held the sixth position and had the potential to rise to third with a series sweep against Bangladesh. Now, the team faces the uphill task of salvaging the series and restoring some dignity in their performance.
