In a groundbreaking move, the Pakistan cricket team’s captain Babar Azam and vice-captain of the Test team Mohammad Rizwan are set to join Harvard Business School’s prestigious Executive Education Programme on The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports (BEMS), according to an announcement by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This marks the first instance of cricketers participating in the elite program.
Babar and Rizwan will follow in the footsteps of renowned sports personalities and celebrities, including Kaka, Edwin van der Sar, Gerard Piqué, Oliver Kahn, NFL’s Brandon Marshall, NBA’s Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, as well as Hollywood figures like Channing Tatum, LL Cool J, and MLB’s Alex Rodriguez, among others.
The players are to represent their nation and the global cricketing community among various influential sports, media, and entertainment figures from May 31 to June 3 at the Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition, they will participate in various community activities in the US until June 13.
The world’s top ODI batter, Babar Azam, expressed his zeal for continuous learning and anticipated gaining insights from the diverse experiences of industry leaders in entertainment, media, and sports. Likewise, Mohammad Rizwan, ranked no. 2 in men’s T20i batting, shared his excitement about sharing their journey and learning from the best.
Program chair, Professor Anita Elberse, welcomed the cricketers to Harvard, acknowledging the value they would bring to the program with their experiences as globally-acclaimed athletes with business interests.
