The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) stresses the importance of the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) for all Pakistanis aged 18 and above. The CNIC is mandatory for accessing essential services such as banking, passport issuance, and voting, ensuring that citizens are recognised as responsible participants in national affairs.
To apply for a first-time CNIC, applicants must visit a NADRA Registration Centre with:
- CNIC of a parent or sibling for biometric verification
- Child Registration Certificate (CRC) or computerised birth certificate
- Legal guardianship documents for adoption or orphan status
- NADRA Form verified by a gazette officer or public representative, if no blood relative is available
These documents ensure accurate identity verification, aligning with NADRA’s secure process.
At the NADRA centre, applicants should:
- Obtain a token and wait for their turn.
- Provide fingerprints, verified by a parent or sibling.
- Submit personal details, a photograph, and fingerprints.
- Review the printed form for accuracy.
- Have the form verified by a relative or gazette officer.
- Answer family background questions if requested by an officer.
This streamlined process ensures efficient and secure registration.
NADRA offers three processing categories:
- Executive: 7 days, PKR 2,500
- Urgent: 15 days, PKR 1,500
- Normal: 30 days, PKR 750
Upon approval, NADRA sends a confirmation SMS, allowing applicants to pay online or at a NADRA office. The CNIC is collected with the payment receipt.
While first-time CNIC applications require in-person registration, NADRA’s Pak-Identity portal supports renewals, reprints, and modifications, enhancing accessibility. This digital initiative simplifies identity management, complementing NADRA’s user-friendly approach, per Geo.tv.
The CNIC empowers Pakistanis to engage in civic and economic activities, reinforcing national identity and inclusion. NADRA’s streamlined process supports millions in securing their rights.
