The federal cabinet has approved amendments to the PTI government’s policy regarding key appointments, notably removing the 65-year age limit and facilitating new hires at salaries up to 2 million PKR per month.
The amendments pertain to the Special Professional Pay Scales Policy of 2019, which previously capped appointments at 65. With the new changes, there will no longer be an upper age limit, allowing for new appointments and extensions beyond this age.
A committee led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, under directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, proposed these changes. The move aims to enhance the operational capacity of federal ministries and divisions by attracting seasoned professionals, technical experts, and consultants.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the federal government to establish a global standard talent pool and to introduce innovations into the governance systems of federal ministries and divisions to increase their effectiveness.
The push to amend the existing age limit policy began just four days before the approval, with the government preparing a summary to eliminate the age restriction. This adjustment is expected to bolster the recruitment of skilled professionals significantly and is seen as crucial for fostering new talent and enhancing administrative functions within the country.
