Adelaide: Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to bat in the World Cup quarter-final against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.
The winner will take on defending champions India in the second semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground next Thursday.
Australia made one change from their last pool match against Scotland, bringing in fast bowler Josh Hazlewood in place of fellow paceman Pat Cummins on a hard, bouncy pitch.
Pakistan retained the same team that beat Ireland, once again ignoring leg-spinner Yasir Shah and veteran batsman Younis Khan.
