The Pakistan Bangladesh ferry service proposal was discussed during a meeting between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain Khan.
Both officials explored plans to strengthen maritime connectivity between the two countries. They expressed a shared commitment to deepening cooperation and expanding economic ties through sea routes.
Minister Chaudhry emphasised that launching a ferry service would boost tourism and facilitate bilateral trade. He said enhanced maritime links could add a new dimension to regional economic engagement.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed establishing a direct shipping line. According to the minister, such a link would improve trade efficiency and lower logistical barriers.
He added that stronger maritime connectivity would contribute to economic stability in the region. Both countries agreed to further expand trade and transform historical ties into a stronger economic partnership.
The discussions reflect growing interest in using sea routes to diversify regional transport options.
Karachi to Chabahar Ferry Service
Separately, Minister Chaudhry recently inaugurated a ferry terminal at Karachi Port Trust (KPT). He described the development as a landmark step toward promoting coastal tourism and strengthening Pakistan’s blue economy.
The minister also announced the soft launch of Pakistan’s first ferry service from Karachi to Iran’s Chabahar Port. Officials said the service will begin in the third week of January. The first ferry is expected to carry up to 240 passengers from Karachi to Chabahar. The journey will take approximately 12 to 14 hours.

Authorities confirmed that the service will operate three round-trips per week. The round-trip fare has been set at Rs50,000 per passenger. Officials believe that ferry services and direct shipping lines can unlock new opportunities in trade, tourism, and regional connectivity.
By improving maritime infrastructure and expanding passenger routes, Pakistan aims to modernise its coastal transport network. The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to strengthen economic ties with neighbouring countries.
If the Pakistan-Bangladesh ferry service proposal moves forward, it could further integrate South Asia’s maritime trade corridors and support long-term economic collaboration.
