Prime Minister mian Nawaz Sharif attended a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) firepower demonstration at the Sonmiani range, during his trip to Karachi earlier today.
Speaking at the event, Nawaz extended his felicitations to Air Marshall Sohail Aman and the PAF upon the successful culmination of the event.
He said the PAF has demonstrated excellence and was working in close coordination with the Pakistan Army to fight terrorism. “The significance of air power… has increased manifold in recent times,” he said.
He said the government was going to commit resources to increase the strength of the air force and expressed appreciation for their sacrifices and enthusiasm.
“PAF airmen are playing their part well in Zarb-i-Azb and other campaigns against terrorism,” he said.
“Despite internal and external challenges… Pakistan will soon emerge as a strong and prosperous nation. The world appreciates our consistency in domestic and foreign policy. Our resolve to eliminate terrorism has earned us appreciation,” the premier said.
Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar had announced earlier on Sunday that he and Nawaz would be in attendance at the meeting, which will also be attended by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial and top military officials, including the Karachi corps commander, the Sindh DG Rangers and the heads of other law-enforcement agencies.
The purpose of Nawaz’s visit will be to sort out the issue of the Rangers’ deployment in Karachi, the term of which expired earlier yesterday.
