Lahore: The Punjab Assembly on Friday approved a resolution pertaining to the BBC report of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) receiving Indian funding.
The resolution was tabled by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and approved with consensus. It calls on the government to form a high-level commission to probe allegations made in the BBC report against the MQM.
According to the resolution if allegations are proven, proceedings under Article 6 of the constitution should be initiated against MQM chief Altaf Hussain and others involved.
On June 24, the BBC carried an investigative report which claimed MQM had received funding from India. The report further claimed that MQM workers had also received training in India.
The allegations made in the BCC report have been denied by the MQM while the Indian government has called them baseless.
