A Pakistani YouTuber, Hafiz Hasan Iqbal Chishti, has ignited significant controversy with a song denouncing girls’ education, which has quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread condemnation.
Uploaded recently, the song “Apni Di School Hata Le Othy Dance Kardi Payi Ae” (Remove your daughter from school; she was spotted dancing there) criticizes the presence of girls in schools, particularly highlighting their participation in dance, which he claims is against Islamic principles.
In the video, Chishti vehemently urges parents to withdraw their daughters from schools, making extreme claims that schooling leads to a loss of sanctity and respect and insinuating that educated girls risk becoming prostitutes. The video includes clips from a dance competition held at a Pakistani school, reportedly organized at UNESCO’s behest, which spurred Chishti to release this song in June.
Since its release, the video has garnered nearly 300,000 views and received over 3,000 likes, but it has also faced intense backlash in the comments section.
Social media users have sharply criticized the song’s misogynistic lyrics and questioned the progressive direction of Pakistan regarding women’s rights and education.
