Orya Maqbool Jan, a prominent Pakistani columnist, anchor, poet, and playwright, has been taken into custody by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
According to reports, Jan was arrested in Lahore under an undisclosed FIR related to Cyber Crime. The specifics of the charges have not been made public, and the FIR copy has not been shared with his family.
Abuzar Salman Niazi, a Core Committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member, confirmed the arrest via a tweet on the social media platform X.
Niazi said he had spoken with Jan’s family and learned of the FIA’s arrest. He added that Jan is currently held at the FIA Office in Lahore and will be represented in court tomorrow to contest the remand.
The circumstances of the arrest remain unclear, as the authorities have yet to release a detailed statement.
