Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq, Pakistan officials say, was launched after what Islamabad described as unprovoked cross-border attacks from Afghanistan. The government confirmed that the military campaign began late Thursday following renewed clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, hundreds of Taliban and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters were killed, with many others wounded. Officials also stated that multiple posts and military installations were destroyed during the operation.
Pakistani authorities said the offensive targeted armed groups aligned with the Afghan Taliban, whom Islamabad accuses of carrying out repeated cross-border attacks.
Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq Pakistan Expands Across Border Regions
Security sources reported that ground and air operations continued across several sectors. Air strikes were conducted at multiple locations inside Afghanistan, including areas in Nangarhar and Kandahar.
Officials stated that Pakistani forces destroyed and seized several posts and targeted brigade and battalion headquarters. Military installations in sectors such as Khyber, Noshki, Qila Saifullah and Ghulam Khan were also reportedly hit.
Pakistani security sources emphasised that civilian populations were not being targeted. They described the operation as a defensive response to aggression along the Pak-Afghan border.
The escalation has drawn international attention. The United States said it was closely monitoring the situation and reaffirmed support for Pakistan’s right to defend itself. China expressed concern about the deteriorating security environment and offered to engage diplomatically. Russia and Iran called for restraint and proposed dialogue, while the United Nations urged respect for international law and civilian protection.
Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have risen over the past year. Islamabad has repeatedly accused Kabul of allowing TTP leadership to operate from Afghan territory, an allegation denied by Afghan authorities.
