On Thursday, OpenAI introduced a new version of its popular chatbot, ChatGPT, priced at $200 per month, targeting professionals in engineering and research. This new tier, named ChatGPT Pro, complements OpenAI’s existing offerings—ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise.
The launch of ChatGPT Pro marks a significant step in OpenAI’s strategy to commercialize its AI technology further, which initially sparked the AI boom.
ChatGPT Pro provides users unlimited access to OpenAI’s most sophisticated tools, including the newly introduced reasoning models o1, o1 mini, GPT-4o, and advanced voice capabilities.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman took to the social platform X to announce, “We just launched two things: o1, the world’s smartest model. It’s smarter, faster, and includes more features like multimodality than the o1-preview. It’s now live in ChatGPT and will soon be available via API. Also, ChatGPT Pro is available at $200/month, offering unlimited usage and an even smarter mode for using o1. More benefits are on the way!”
The o1 pro mode utilizes additional computing resources to address more complex queries and has demonstrated superior performance on machine learning benchmarks, including math, science, and coding, compared to earlier versions like o1 and o1-preview.
