OpenAI has launched an in-app marketplace for ChatGPT, marking a major step in expanding the platform’s capabilities and developer ecosystem.
The new ChatGPT app store allows developers to build and submit applications that integrate directly into ChatGPT conversations. OpenAI has rolled out the feature in beta, giving developers early access to tools and workflows.
Through the newly introduced Apps SDK, developers can create interactive experiences for ChatGPT users. Once an app is ready, developers can submit it via the OpenAI Developer platform and track its review and approval status in real time.
The update also adds a dedicated app directory within ChatGPT’s tools menu. This directory lets users discover and access approved apps without leaving the chatbot environment.
Any travel brand can now submit apps and get listed in its new app store — which means Booking and Expedia, early movers in OpenAI’s app ecosystem, will soon get new competition to own ChatGPT’s travel conversations.https://t.co/dMf7BclMXX

OpenAI first announced plans to integrate third-party apps into ChatGPT in October. The goal was to transform the chatbot into a more versatile platform rather than a standalone conversational tool.
Several major brands have already confirmed participation. Companies such as Expedia, Spotify, Zillow, and Canva plan to offer services directly through ChatGPT, allowing users to complete tasks within a single conversation.

According to OpenAI, apps enhance ChatGPT beyond adding features. They bring in external context and enable real-world actions. Users can order groceries, generate presentations, or search for apartments without switching platforms.
OpenAI said the initiative aims to attract a broader developer community and encourage innovation across industries. The company expects more approved apps to launch inside ChatGPT over the next year as the ecosystem matures.
