Nothing has launched a new app, “Nothing Community Widgets,” featuring user-co-developed smartphone widgets.
The app includes games and tools, including a snake game reminiscent of the classic Nokia snake game. It was one of the inaugural offerings, exclusively for devices like the Nothing Phone 2a Plus and Nothing Phone 2.
Community member Rahul Janardhanan originated the concept for the Snake widget in January. Instead of in-house development, Nothing collaborated with Thomas Legendre, known for his work on Ear (web) and the Simone Glyph Game.
Users can add the Snake game to their home screen as a widget. The game challenges players to grow their snake by consuming red dots, increasing in length and speed with each dot while avoiding collisions with the snake’s body. Unlike the Nokia version, which uses a keypad, this game is controlled through swipe gestures.
Nothing’s strategy emphasizes community involvement in creating quality widgets. These widgets are available through the Nothing Community Widgets app on the Google Play Store. Community members are encouraged to propose concepts the company’s software team evaluates for development potential.
Recently, Nothing introduced the Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition, a product of extensive collaboration with its community. This initiative spanned several aspects, including hardware design, wallpaper creation, packaging, and marketing. The phone features a distinctive glow-in-the-dark design, enhanced with a green luminous material on the back.
