Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner, has been arrested. He is charged in connection with the alleged killing of his parents, Los Angeles authorities confirmed on Sunday.
Law enforcement officials said Reiner was taken into custody near a Metro station roughly 15 miles from the family’s Brentwood residence. Images released by the LAPD Gang and Narcotics Unit show officers detaining the suspect and placing him in handcuffs. His identity was initially withheld in public footage. Police referred to him only as a “double homicide suspect.”
According to investigators, U.S. Marshals, supported by the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division, carried out the arrest. Reiner has since been formally charged with murder. He is being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. Authorities also placed him on suicide watch, citing mental-health concerns.

The arrest has renewed attention on Nick Reiner’s long-documented struggles with addiction and mental health. In a 2016 interview, he described years of substance abuse. It began in his early teens and led to repeated rehabilitation attempts and extended periods of homelessness across several states.
Those experiences later inspired Being Charlie, a semi-autobiographical film co-written by Nick Reiner and directed by his father. The project chronicled addiction, recovery, and strained family relationships.
In that interview, Reiner said he had returned home and reconnected with his family after years of instability. He described the period as a turning point in his life.
Rob Reiner was a defining figure in American entertainment. He rose to fame as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family before directing landmark films. These included Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men.
