Netherlands beat Costa Rica 4 -3 in the penalty shootout and  through into semi-finals. None of teams could score within 120 minutes .

As everyone predicted, the Netherlands controlled the game throughout. The Dutch had 70% possession of  the ball of the game, and created one chance after another, and did couldn’t capitalised.

In extra time, Costa Rica almost stole the game. After the extra time it seemed like maybe this was Costa Rica’s day.

The game got more excited in the penalty shootout. All four Dutch shooters confidently slotted home their penalties, while Tim Krul, who replaced Cillessen specifically for the shootout, made two saves to send the Dutch through to the semifinal.

The Netherlands will now meet Argentina next week.
