The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has granted a 20-year license renewal to K-Electric (KE) for power distribution and supply. This decision comes as a response to KE’s request for a non-exclusive license, aligning with the ongoing liberalization of the power sector. KE’s initial 20-year license expired in July 2023.

Interim License and Final Decision

After the expiry of their previous license, NEPRA issued KE an interim distribution license for six months, set to end in January 2024. The renewal decision was made after a comprehensive hearing that concluded on November 28, 2023. Nepra has officially authorized K-Electric to continue its operations in Karachi and surrounding areas, including Uthal, Bela, Vinder, Hub, Dhabeji, and Gharo.
