Islamabad: All-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi while apologising to the nation for the loss in the World Cup said we need to fix our domestic cricket system and shouldn’t change it so frequently for better results in future.

Afridi said first of all I would like to apologize to fans and people of Pakistan that the team and I were unable to fulfill their expectations. “I regret that the ending of my ODI career was not as good as it should have been,” he said while talking to a private news channel.

Afridi said fielding is one aspect which helps you win 80-85% of your games but we failed to avail those opportunities at crucial times. “I would like to credit our fast bowlers for the fine performance during this tournament,” he said.

Afridi congratulated skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on his leadership. “Misbah performed really well and I enjoyed playing under his captaincy during the previous 4 years,” he said.

Responding to a question, Afridi said the decision to appoint the new ODI Captain will be taken by Board but I will give my opinion on future captain for Pakistan in a few days.

In response to question about Shoiab Akhtar’s comments after the Australia game, Afridi said he is open to criticism if he has done something wrong in terms of cricket but it should not be personal.

“I am not happy with the role of the media from the time the World Cup started,” he said adding media must give value to performances of the cricket stars.

Fast bowler Wahab Riaz said we are very disappointed about losing in the World Cup Quarter Final. “Each one of us tried our best but I suppose this was God’s will in the end,” he said.

He said Misbah always wanted to attack in fact few times we said we didn’t want a slip in place but he insisted that we should have that slip. “Biggest regret is that we lost in the Quarter Final,” he said while apologizing to the fans for the World Cup loss. (APP)
