To garner public attention, a Nebraska man named Lee Meyer modified his car by removing the passenger side roof to accommodate his full-sized bull, Howdy Doody, for a town tour.
Surprised authorities, expecting a calf based on reports, encountered the vehicle at the intersection of West Norfolk Avenue and North 13th Street, where they saw the bull enjoying a ride in a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria.
Motivated by his granddaughter’s dare, Meyer followed his plan despite initial reservations. “I had to show her that Grandpa could do it, even though it might have been a bad idea,” he stated.
The bull, a mix of Longhorn and Watusi, weighed around 2,200 pounds two years ago and is believed to be heavier now. Although Meyer hadn’t secured official approvals for his car modifications, he was let go by the officials with a caution to drive safely.
The Nebraska DMV notes that vehicle retrofitting to transport animals is not uncommon in the state.
