NBA icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was recently hospitalized following a fall at a music concert in Los Angeles.
The accident resulted in a broken hip for the former Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers star. He was promptly attended to by paramedics and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Abdul-Jabbar’s representative, Deborah Morales, informed TMZ that he receives care at UCLA Hospital. The extent of his condition following the incident remains unknown. This hospitalization comes three years after Abdul-Jabbar disclosed in an essay his successful battle against prostate cancer, in addition to his previous fight with chronic myeloid leukaemia.
Abdul-Jabbar’s Legacy in NBA and Beyond
Renowned as one of the greatest NBA players, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr., holds the second-highest all-time points total in the league, trailing only behind LeBron James. He is celebrated for his record six-time MVP wins in the NBA.
Abdul-Jabbar experienced much of his success with the Lakers alongside Magic Johnson, earning four additional NBA titles. He retired in 1989 at 42, holding records in minutes played and field goals made. Besides his remarkable basketball career, Abdul-Jabbar is now a health ambassador for UCLA and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016 by President Barack Obama.
