The Ministry of Law and Justice has designated Nasir Javed Rana as Islamabad Accountability Court-I’s new judge, replacing Muhammad Bashir, who retires on March 14. Rana’s term extends until January 24, 2027, as per the official announcement.

Judge Bashir sought medical leave until retirement on January 20, citing health issues. However, after declining his request, he retracted his leave application on January 27, claiming improved health.

On January 28, Bashir sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 14 years for misappropriating state gifts. He requested medical leave again on February 3.

Bashir oversaw major cases against Khan, his wife, Nawaz Sharif, Yousuf Raza Gillani, and Asif Ali Zardari. Serving since 2012, his tenure lasted eleven years, notably convicting two ex-prime ministers.
