Senior UK Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member Nasir Butt filed defamation charges against YouTuber Adil Raja and several others for falsely accusing him of plotting to murder journalist Arshad Sharif and shoot former prime minister Imran Khan.
Butt announced that he had sued Syed Tasnim Haider, his attorney Mahtab Anwar Aziz, Tariq Mahmood, businessman Liaquat Malik, YouTuber Major (retd) Adil Raja, and five journalists.
The PML-N leader sued eight people and would pursue a few more who broadcast Tasnim Haider interviews in the UK and Canada.
Butt added that his attorneys had submitted letters of defamation to Tasnim Haider and others for allegedly conspiring against him by falsely connecting him with the death of Arshad Sharif and an attack on Imran Khan.
Last year, Kenyan police shot and killed Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif. The PTI chairman and former prime minister were attacked in Wazirabad the next month.
Last week, Scotland Yard denied Tasnim Haider and his counsel Mahtab Aziz’s requests for inquiries into Nasir Butt, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, and Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz.
“The London police have made it clear that it looked into the evidence provided by Tasnim Haider and did not find it credible therefore, no investigation was launched,” Butt told journalists. “The police have said the evidence is insufficient, and there are no realistic prospects of a conviction.”
