A Rawalpindi local court has mandated a 14-day judicial remand at Adiala Jail for Najaf Hamid, brother of the former ISI chief Lt. Gen. (rtd.) Faiz Hamid, on corruption charges.
The arrest was made following Najaf Hamid’s failure to secure pre-arrest bail from the court of Senior Civil Judge Waqar Hussain Gondal after a special anti-corruption court rejected his post-arrest bail.
Najaf faces allegations of accumulating assets beyond his means, alongside charges of corruption and misconduct.
The senior civil judge’s order mentioned the investigation officer’s request for Najaf’s remand, noting the serious nature of the non-bailable offences against him. The order stated that Najaf must be produced in court with a detailed report on April 1, 2024.
Earlier that day, Najaf sought to extend his pre-arrest bail in Anti-Corruption Judge Ali Nawaz Bhakar’s court but was taken into custody by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Rawalpindi Circle as his bail extension was denied. Subsequently, his post-arrest bail application was also dismissed.
The Anti-Corruption Department of Punjab confirmed Najaf’s arrest following the court’s dismissal of his bail, stating the allegations against him were substantiated during the investigation.
