On August 6, 2025, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) issued a public advisory urging Pakistani citizens to refrain from sharing personal information with unauthorised websites or mobile applications to prevent identity theft, prompted by growing concerns about fraudulent platforms impersonating NADRA.
Recent reports indicate that scammers are taking advantage of citizens by offering incentives in exchange for sensitive information, such as CNIC numbers and biometric data. This information is then misused for illegal activities.
NADRA has emphasised that personal data should only be shared through its official Pak Identity app. The authority also pointed out that original documents are typically sufficient for most official processes and advised against providing unnecessary photocopies of CNICs to minimise risks.
After a data breach that impacted 2.7 million Pakistanis, NADRA has strengthened its commitment to cybersecurity and public awareness. The agency advises citizens to remain vigilant, refrain from sharing information with suspicious platforms, and report any fraudulent entities claiming to be NADRA. They emphasised, “Protecting data online is not just a precaution; it is a necessity.”
