NADRA’s deceased CNIC cancellation has become a major focus of Pakistan’s identity verification efforts following the authority’s reconciliation of civil registration records with the national citizen database.
According to the source content, this process led to the cancellation of around 4.2 million CNICs that remained active even though the individuals had already been registered as deceased.
Officials said the mismatch happened because many deaths were recorded in civil registration records, but families did not complete the update with NADRA. Reported coverage says NADRA has been urging citizens to follow the legal process for cancelling the ID cards of deceased relatives to prevent misuse and keep national records accurate.
The source content also says that around 3 million families have now approached NADRA to formally cancel these identity cards after recent facilitation and awareness efforts. That reflects a broader push to reduce discrepancies in Pakistan’s population and identity records.
NADRA Deceased CNIC Cancellation and Child Registration Gap
Alongside the CNIC verification drive, NADRA says another major issue remains unresolved. According to the source content, around 14 million births have been registered with Union Councils but are still missing from NADRA’s database.
To close that gap, the authority has started sending reminder SMS messages to parents and guardians. NADRA is urging families to visit its offices and obtain B-Forms, also known as Child Registration Certificates, so children can be properly included in the national database. This fits with NADRA’s broader effort to improve record accuracy and identity transparency in Pakistan.

NADRA also warned that CNICs can sometimes be cancelled by mistake or through malicious reporting by relatives. In such cases, citizens are advised to contact NADRA, verify the relevant Union Council record, correct the information there, and then update the national database through the proper channel.
