On June 26, 2025, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) launched a limited-time initiative to streamline the renewal process for chipless Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) in Pakistan.
The campaign aims to encourage citizens to upgrade to modern, secure ID cards with enhanced digital features. Consequently, NADRA has slashed fees and halved delivery times, making the process more accessible and efficient.
The new chipless CNICs feature digital enhancements, including QR codes and bilingual data in both Urdu and English, ensuring compatibility with official documents such as passports and bank records. For instance, these upgrades improve security and usability. Additionally, NADRA introduced lifetime validity for specific groups, including organ donors and individuals with disabilities. This move reflects a commitment to inclusivity and long-term convenience.
Revised NADRA Fee Structure and Delivery
NADRA announced a discounted fee structure for CNIC renewals, replacements, and updates. The normal service now costs Rs400 with a 15-day delivery, down from 30 days. The urgent service, priced at Rs 1,150, takes 12 days, while the executive service, at Rs 2,150, delivers in six days. Citizens can apply at NADRA Registration Centres or via the Pak Identity portal for home delivery. These changes make the process faster and more affordable.

Beyond CNIC renewals, NADRA enhanced family registration certificates and streamlined related services. The authority’s efforts align with Pakistan’s push for digital modernisation, as noted in local news reports. However, the initiative is time-limited, urging citizens to act before the deadline, which is expected by late June 2025, although exact dates remain unconfirmed.
