The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has released official guidelines. These enable citizens to conveniently update their address on Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) and confirm biometrics for passport applications using digital tools.
According to a social media statement, citizens can now update their registered address via the PakID mobile application or at their nearest NADRA Registration Centre. To process the change, applicants must provide one acceptable document as proof of the new residence.
Acceptable documents include an electricity, gas, or water bill. These must be issued in the applicant’s name or in the name of their parents or spouse. Alternatively, a domicile certificate, property ownership documents, a society allotment letter, or a verified tenancy agreement are also valid for address verification.

In a related development, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, in cooperation with NADRA, has introduced a new digital system for fingerprint confirmation for passport applicants.
Individuals applying for a new passport can now confirm their fingerprints remotely via the NADRA Pak-ID mobile app at any time and from any location. If a user encounters difficulties with the fingerprint scan, the app provides an alternative facial recognition facility to complete the verification.
To use this service, applicants should first submit their passport application via the official online web portal. Upon reaching the biometric verification stage, they must log in to the Pak-ID app. Then navigate to the “Online Passport” section within the biometric verification menu, and enter their Passport Tracking ID and CNIC number. The final step involves confirming identity using the app’s fingerprint or facial recognition.
