Mumtaz Mustafa, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), passed away of a heart attack in Parliament Lodges on Monday.
According to the NA Secretariat, Mustafa represented the NA-171 constituency and resided in the Parliament Lodges in Rahim Yar Khan, southern Punjab, where he passed away.
Following his death, the lower house session was convened to express condolences and was adjourned with no further proceedings.
NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq announced there would be no ceremonial thumping due to Mustafa’s passing out of respect for the guests attending the session.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmaker Khawaja Izhaar ul Haq highlighted that an ambulance was delayed reaching Mustafa’s lodge because cars belonging to other members blocked the road. Reacting to this, the NA Speaker instructed the deputy speaker to immediately clear the obstruction at the Parliament Lodges.
The leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, extended his condolences, commending Mustafa’s amiable nature.
