Mortal Kombat 2: First Look at Characters, Release Date, and Tournament Details Revealed

The highly anticipated sequel, Mortal Kombat 2, will hit theatres on October 24, 2025, and new stills have given fans their first glimpse of some of the film’s iconic characters.

Entertainment Weekly recently shared exclusive images featuring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion.

Director Simon McQuoid confirmed that Mortal Kombat 2 will finally bring the legendary Mortal Kombat tournament to the big screen. The stakes are higher than ever: if Earthrealm loses its 10th consecutive match against Outworld, the menacing Shao Kahn will invade and conquer the planet.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon teased that fans will be “keeping score throughout the movie,” as the tournament will feature visual representations of wins and losses. This innovative approach adds a new layer of tension to the already action-packed storyline.

Karl Urban’s portrayal of Johnny Cage promises to bring a fresh dynamic to the franchise, blending humour with depth. Boon noted, “His depiction differs from the games, but it will feel fresh.” Meanwhile, returning cast members include Josh Lawson as Kano, Max Huang as Kung Lao, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.

While the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero will continue, it will take a backseat to the tournament’s central plot, ensuring the focus remains on the high-stakes battles for Earthrealm’s survival.
