Rana Sanaullah stated that PML-Q Chaudhry Moonis Elahi’s statement about former army chief General (ret.) Qamar Javed Bajwa’s advice raises doubts about the army’s claim to be “apolitical” and that an explanation should be given.

The interior minister’s comments come a day after Moonis’ disclosure that (retd) Gen Bajwa asked PML-Q to back PTI during the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.

“Gen Bajwa completed his term and retired. So his gains and losses are irrelevant, “Sanaullah stated today in Lahore.

He stated the former army chief told the public the institution is politically neutral.

“Moonis Elahi’s statement casts doubt on the institution’s narrative,” added Sanaullah.

The minister said the government and nation trust the military’s “genuine” and “respectful” commitment to the nation.

He said the institution would execute its national responsibility in the country’s service with the same determination to develop politics and affairs.
