Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is poised to embrace a significant new leadership role following the ICC Champions Trophy. He is set to become the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
Reports indicate that Naqvi will step into the role after the Champions Trophy final, succeeding Shami Silva, who has served as the interim president and president of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
The official transfer of the presidency will take place during the forthcoming General Council meeting of the ACC. This meeting is pivotal for the leadership transition. It will also address key agenda items such as the selection of venues for the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in India later this year.
Amidst ongoing venue discussions, it is anticipated that Pakistan’s matches in the Asia Cup might be hosted in Dubai or Sri Lanka, depending on the outcomes of further talks.

Additionally, the General Council will review the feasibility of continuing the hybrid model for the 2023 Asia Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy, which were affected by India’s non-participation due to political tensions. Despite these challenges, India will maintain hosting rights for these cricketing events.
This strategic decision by the ACC seeks to mitigate controversies between Pakistan and India as the Champions Trophy approaches.
Mohsin Naqvi’s ascension to the ACC presidency follows his unanimous and unopposed election as PCB Chairman for a three-year term last year, marking another significant milestone in his cricket administration career.
