Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan, renowned for his determination on the cricket field, has recently shared insights into his resilience in heart matters.
Rizwan, celebrated for his spirited century against Sri Lanka at the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he overcame physical cramps to help Pakistan achieve the highest-ever chase in the tournament’s history, revealed the challenges he faced in his marital pursuits.
During an event attended by team captain Babar Azam, Rizwan opened up about his lengthy courtship, which spanned eight years. The discussion, initiated by an interviewer who highlighted Rizwan’s devout approach to his relationship, included Quranic recitations and persistent prayer.
Babar Azam humorously passed the microphone to Rizwan, prompting him to share his story. He quipped about his marital status, eliciting laughter from the audience. Rizwan responded playfully but soon addressed the gravity of his romantic journey.
He expressed the complexities inherent in his love story, particularly within the Pathan culture known for its stringent marital customs. Rizwan disclosed that marrying his chosen partner took eight years of persistent prayer and negotiation, as her family initially opposed the union.
Proudly, he noted that he was the first in his family to marry for love, reflecting on his faith’s role in his persistence: “I was sure at that time that whatever I ask from Allah, he will not return me empty-handed,” Rizwan concluded, underscoring his unwavering faith and determination.
