The Balochistan Home Department has requested the Ministry of Interior to suspend mobile phone services in the Sibi and Kachhi districts from November 13 to 14, ahead of the by-election in the PB-8 constituency. This measure aims to preserve law and order during the election, according to the department’s correspondence with the Interior Ministry.
Scheduled for November 14, the by-election in PB-8 follows the death of Sardar Sarfaraz Chakar Domki, Balochistan’s municipal minister. In addition to mobile service suspension, the Home Department has also proposed a temporary halt to PTCL services to ensure a smooth voting process. The Ministry of Interior has not yet confirmed its response to these recommendations.
Domki, a significant figure in Balochistan and leader of the Domki tribe passed away in Karachi this September due to lung and kidney disease at the age of 55. He had previously won his seat in the Balochistan Assembly as a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party-Parliamentarians (PPP-P), garnering over 27,000 votes. The upcoming by-election will decide his replacement in the assembly.
