Mob pelts Metro buses with stones

As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) begun its protest sit-ins in different areas of Lahore on Monday, some unruly workers blocked the route of government-run Metro Bus service and pelted the vehicles with stones.

The protest prompted a partial suspension of services as flag-carrying workers blocked Mall Road, Liberty and other thoroughfares of the city.

According to Metro Bus Authority, PTI workers pelted two of the buses with stones breaking windowpanes of one of the luxury passenger vehicles.

Strike-like situation is being observed on shutdown call given by PTI chief Imran Khan who blames the PML-N government for rigging in last year’s general elections, but simultaneously holding negotiations with the ruling clique.

Khan has vowed to paralyze major cities around the country as part of his efforts to topple the ruling regime, which he says is illegal.

The city remained partially shut as traders were divided over observing a complete closure. Public transport; however, remained available on roads. Government-run education institutions remained open in the city whereas private schools and colleges were closed.
