The Miss America competition distinguishes itself with its commitment to scholarship and service. This prestigious event demands a multifaceted skill set from its candidates, emphasizing talent, communication skills, and a deep-rooted dedication to social impact.

Participants must champion a social cause, exhibit a distinctive talent, participate in private interviews, and present their Social Impact Initiative during the evening wear segment. This approach shifts the focus from mere physical appearance to a more holistic representation of intelligence, talent, and social consciousness.

In a departure from the norm in beauty pageants, Miss America eschews cash prizes, TV contracts, or modelling deals. Instead, it focuses exclusively on providing scholarships and empowering women in their academic and professional pursuits. The approach underscores the pageant’s commitment to education and personal growth over commercial gains.

The decision to eliminate the swimsuit competition in 2018, under the guidance of Chairwoman Gretchen Carlson, was a pivotal moment. It reinforced the organization’s dedication to its core values of service and scholarship, affirming that the contestants’ worth extends beyond their physical appearance.

Beyond the Crown: Scholarships and Sisterhood

Miss America operates on a model that rewards not just the winner but also recognizes the diverse achievements of its participants. The titleholder receives a $50,000 scholarship, while the top 15 finalists and various category winners also receive educational grants. This structure is consistent at local, state, and national levels, reflecting the organization’s commitment to celebrating varied accomplishments.

Miss America transcends the conventional beauty pageant model. It represents a community that fosters connections among driven, talented women across generations. Behind the crown’s sparkle lies a network united in their dedication to societal betterment.

Volunteers are the backbone of the Miss America organization. Their relentless work in fundraising, event planning, preparing candidates, and securing sponsorships is crucial to the pageant’s success. The iconic crown’s four points – service, style, scholarship, and success – encapsulate the essential qualities of a Miss America candidate.

Miss America Teen Winner: A Rewarding Journey

Hanley House, the victor of the Miss America Teen competition, earned a title and a substantial scholarship package. She received $60,000 in tuition scholarships, which she can use at a school of her choosing or for a 4-year Presidential Scholarship at the University of Alabama.

Her year of service as Miss America Teen will involve travelling across the United States, advocating for “Passion to Profit” – her chosen platform. She will also serve as a role model for young girls and represent the Miss America’s Teen program as a brand ambassador. This role signifies a commitment to inspiring and guiding the next generation, reinforcing the pageant’s focus on service and empowerment.
