The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has urged the telecom regulator to block blasphemous content on social media platforms.

In a letter to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the ministry expressed concern that both pornographic and blasphemous content remain accessible online.

The ministry noted that Pakistan is among the top countries with the highest viewership of adult content, calling this trend “alarming.”

The letter also raised concerns about the adherence to Supreme Court directives and questioned the PTA’s ability to effectively enforce content regulations.

Despite the PTA’s significant efforts to block adult and blasphemous content in line with Supreme Court orders, the ministry pointed out that these materials are still accessible online, which violates Pakistan’s cultural and religious values.

The ministry emphasized that the continued availability of such content undermines efforts to protect citizens, especially young people, from exposure to harmful material.
