Mingus Lucien Reedus, the 25-year-old son of actor Norman Reedus and former model Helena Christensen, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court for allegedly assaulting his 33-year-old girlfriend at his apartment in Chelsea.
According to the New York Post, the charges include criminal obstruction of breathing and third-degree assault. This violent incident has attracted significant attention due to Reedus’s connections to celebrity culture.
Prosecutors revealed that on August 22, Reedus allegedly strangled his girlfriend with significant force, lifting her off the ground. The assault reportedly continued the next morning, with Reedus allegedly kicking her and throwing her to the floor, leaving visible injuries to her neck and leg, per People. The victim was hospitalised in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital. Reedus called 911, claiming she was threatening suicide, but police determined he was the aggressor upon arrival.

Reedus’s attorney, Priya Chaudhry, argued that the incident stemmed from the victim’s distress after Reedus ended their five-month relationship, claiming he was trying to help her. Chaudhry stated the girlfriend does not fear Reedus and opposes charges. However, Judge Elizabeth Shamahs rejected these claims, issuing a protection order barring Reedus from contact with the victim, citing the severity of the allegations.
This is Reedus’ second arrest related to an assault, following a 2021 incident at the San Gennaro Festival, where he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. This incident brings attention to the ongoing issue of domestic violence, as 1 in 4 women in the U.S. experience abuse.
Reedus is scheduled to return to court in October 2025, as investigations continue. The case, which has been widely reported by various outlets, highlights the importance of accountability in high-profile incidents. As public scrutiny increases, Reedus’ legal team is expected to vigorously challenge the charges against him.
