Michigan Fires Coach Sherrone Moore for Policy Violation, Police Detain Him

The University of Michigan fired head football coach Sherrone Moore on December 11, 2025. The termination resulted from an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member. The Saline Police Department assisted in locating Moore. He was detained in Saline, Michigan, a small town near Ann Arbor. Officers then turned him over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department. That department is investigating “potential charges.” Early reports clarified this was a detention, not a formal arrest.

Unsubstantiated rumours have circulated on social media. No official source has confirmed these claims. Michigan moved swiftly to name an interim head coach. Offensive coordinator Biff Poggi will lead the program on an interim basis. This aims to maintain stability during the vital recruiting season.
