Former Punjab Governor and PTI National Assembly member Mian Muhammad Azhar passed away in Lahore on July 23, 2025, after a prolonged illness. He was the father of PTI leader Hammad Azhar and a seasoned politician who served as the federal Minister of Commerce during the 1990s.
Mian Muhammad Azhar, a prominent political figure, served as the founding president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and later joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in October 2011, marking a significant shift in his political affiliations.

Ahead of the polls, authorities detained him in January 2024 during a widespread police crackdown on PTI-affiliated candidates and supporters who rallied in response to party founder Imran Khan’s call. He was released a few hours later.
