Meta has significantly improved the calling experience on its Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses by introducing a new software feature designed for noisy public environments.
Until now, smart glasses have struggled with call clarity, especially in noisy environments. Unlike earbuds such as AirPods, built-in microphones and speakers often pick up ambient noise, making conversations difficult in cafés, on the street, and in offices.
That limitation is now easing with a new feature called Conversation Focus. Meta is rolling out the update to users enrolled in its Early Access programme.
Conversation Focus uses software-based audio processing to lock onto the voice directly in front of the wearer. It filters out background noise and prioritises the speaker’s voice. Meta says the feature “amplifies the voices of people you are facing for better communication in noisy places.”
The result is clearer voice calls and face-to-face conversations without needing earbuds or a phone. According to Meta, the system works best when the speaker is within 1.8 metres of the wearer.
Activating the feature is simple. Users can enable it with a voice command such as, “Hey Meta, start Conversation Focus.” Once activated, the glasses automatically enhance the target voice.
The feature is currently available in the United States and Canada. It supports both Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Oakley Meta HSTN.
The update mirrors similar features, such as Apple’s Conversation Awareness on AirPods. It marks a key step in making smart glasses more practical for everyday communication in public spaces.
