On June 20, 2025, Meesha Shafi won a defamation lawsuit against ARY’s UK broadcaster, New Vision TV (NVTV), which issued an on-air apology and settled out of court.
In 2023, the UK High Court ruled that NVTV defamed Shafi in a December 2020 broadcast by falsely claiming she intentionally ignored Pakistani court orders for two years. The court highlighted that the broadcast, which linked her to Ali Zafar’s defamation lawsuit, damaged her reputation as a prominent Pakistani celebrity and women’s rights advocate. NVTV’s apology acknowledged that the report caused a “misunderstanding” and distress.
In 2018, Shafi accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment, marking Pakistan’s first high-profile MeToo case. Following the accusation, Zafar filed a defamation suit for Rs 1 billion, which Shafi countered with her lawsuit.

2019 the Lahore High Court dismissed her harassment case on technical grounds. However, in 2021, the Supreme Court agreed to review whether her claims fall under the 2010 Harassment Act.
The victory strengthens Shafi’s call for accountability, with fans lauding her resilience. Unverified social media reports regarding the settlement’s terms should be interpreted cautiously, as no official figures have been released.
