Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) plan to protest nationwide against vote rigging. He stated their approach would involve not participating in votes and sitting on the opposition benches in the National Assembly. At a Karachi press conference, he noted the lack of conditions for a broad alliance but mentioned working on a plan to mobilize the movement throughout the country.
He questioned the parliament’s legitimacy, attributing its composition to electoral fraud, and emphasized that governance under such conditions lacks genuine support from the populace. Fazlur Rehman declared the parliament’s diminishing significance and democracy’s weakening state, underscoring their rejection of the election results based on evidence.
He highlighted the repetition of rigged elections in 2018 and 2024, questioning the authenticity. Fazlur Rehman detailed plans for a vigorous national campaign to foster change and clarified that there is no grand alliance proposal yet. He defended dialogues with other parties, emphasizing respect and the value of understanding through meetings.
Regarding the presidential elections, he preferred the opposition’s candidate over the ruling coalition’s, constrained by his party’s decision. He also criticized the establishment’s influence on elections and the international pressures it faces, mentioning potential repercussions from meeting with leaders like those of Hamas.
