Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announces free plots and housing initiatives under ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ Program.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed a committee to provide free plots to the public. The decision was made during a special meeting chaired by the Chief Minister to review the progress of the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ program, a flagship housing initiative in Punjab.
An 8-member committee has been established to finalize the Terms of Reference (TORs) for distributing free plots to eligible citizens. This initiative aims to make housing more accessible to the public.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered a detailed review of 3 and 5 marla government housing schemes across Punjab. This step ensures transparency and efficiency in the allocation and development of housing projects.

The meeting highlighted the progress of 2,807 plots across 35 government housing schemes in 22 districts. Additionally, the development of 1,119 plots in 9 housing schemes across 7 districts has been prioritized.
The Chief Minister set a target to complete the construction of 20,000 houses by February under the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ program. She also emphasized the need to construct 100,000 houses annually, regardless of challenges.
The ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ Program
- Loan Disbursements: Loans worth Rs 8.20 billion have been disbursed for constructing 9,015 houses.
- Second Instalment Releases: 2,050 beneficiaries have received the second instalment of loans, while 4,841 houses are nearing completion.
- Application Volume: Over 400,000 applications with complete documentation have been received for the program, reflecting its popularity and public trust.
Interest-Free Housing Initiative
The ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ program is Pakistan’s first major interest-free housing project. Key features include:
- Loans of up to Rs 1.5 million are provided on merit, with borrowers required to repay only the principal amount over nine years.
- Monthly instalments are Rs 14,000, making homeownership affordable for low-income families.
- Over 5,000 homes are nearing completion under Phase II, with loans already distributed to 3,000 beneficiaries.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated that loans under the program are being distributed strictly on merit, ensuring fairness and transparency. This approach has strengthened public confidence in the initiative.
