Reports that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed in strikes have emerged after Israeli media claimed the former Iranian president died in Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran.
According to Israeli outlets, Ahmadinejad was struck at his residence. The reports described the incident as part of an ongoing campaign targeting senior Iranian figures.
Israeli newspaper Ma’ariv reported that Ahmadinejad was under house arrest at the time of the alleged strike. The outlet stated that he was killed in what it described as a targeted attack on his home.
There has been no independent confirmation included in the initial media accounts. The reports come amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing military operations involving Iran.
Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s sixth president from 2005 to 2013. He rose from relative political obscurity as mayor of Tehran to win the 2005 presidential election, defeating former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in a surprise runoff.
His 2009 reelection sparked widespread protests known as the Green Movement. The demonstrations were later suppressed by security forces, marking one of the most significant internal crises in the Islamic Republic’s recent history.
