In Faisalabad’s Thikriwala area, a distressing incident of corporal punishment at a madrassa came to light after a video showing a teacher severely beating a student went viral, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
The police filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Friday based on a complaint from the student’s father, Rashid.
The FIR cites Sections 328A (exposure and abandonment of a child under twelve years by a parent or caregiver) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). According to the complaint, Mohammad Rizwan, a cleric at Jamia Ghousia Rizvia, began assaulting his son for an undisclosed reason after Zuhr prayers on July 24.
During the incident, two fellow students, Mohammad Raza and Munawwar, witnessed the abuse and intervened, pleading with Rizwan to stop the assault. Their intervention prompted the teacher to release the victim.
The confrontation escalated when Rashid confronted Rizwan about the beating. According to the FIR, Rizwan reacted with hostility and verbally abused the concerned father. This prompted Rashid to approach the police and formally lodge the complaint on July 25.
