The Multan-Sukkur M-5 Motorway has suffered a major breach after floodwaters washed away another section, the eastern part of the M-5, between Multan and Sukkur on Saturday, just days after a previous breach on the western side.
Motorway Police and National Highway Authority (NHA) teams are actively working at the site. Heavy machinery is in use, and workers are placing stones to slow the flow and prevent further erosion. The aim is to contain the damage and protect other vulnerable sections.
All traffic between Multan and Jhangra is currently suspended, and travellers are advised to use alternate routes. The NHA has also closed the motorway near Jalalpur Pirwala, and this section remains shut to all types of traffic.

PDMA Punjab Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has confirmed the closure. He explained that emergency teams are reinforcing weak spots with sandbags and stones to stabilise the motorway’s structure.
These closures are necessary to keep travellers safe and to allow urgent repairs. Quick action helps to limit larger disruptions and highlights the need for resilient infrastructure in flood-prone regions.
