Former Pakistan Army corps commander Lt. Gen. (ret.) Nazir Ahmed Butt has been appointed the National Accountability Bureau’s new chief (NAB) chief.
Saturday, after deliberation and selection of the former general, Premier Shehbaz Sharif and National Assembly Opposition Leader Raja Riaz announced his appointment.
After only seven months, Aftab Sultan abruptly resigned as chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NAB).
Sultan cited “intervention” and “pressure” as the reasons for his departure, although he did not specify the source of the pressure.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) grabbed the opportunity to assert that the comments were evidence that he was coerced into filing corruption allegations against Imran Khan.
The federal government announced the nomination following an agreement between the prime minister and the opposition leader.
