Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid, one of the top Pakistan military generals, has submitted a request for early retirement.

Lt Gen Hamid, who also served as the head of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was one of the six senior army officers proposed by the General Headquarters (GHQ) for the position of the army chief, for which appointments were finalized last week.

The Corps Commander of Bahawalpur has requested early retirement from the GHQ in Rawalpindi.

The news follows the federal government’s appointment of Gen. Asim Munir as the next chief of army staff and Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza as chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC).

Lt. Gen. Azhar Abbas, the Pakistani Army’s Chief of General Staff (CGS), has reportedly also requested early retirement. He was among the most senior officials.
