Lieutenant General Munir Afsar has been designated as the fresh Chairman of the National Database and Regulatory Authority (NADRA). The decision came after the federal cabinet meticulously assessed three nominations the Ministry of Interior provided.
The selection committee presented a concise list of three potential candidates for the esteemed position of Chairman NADRA to the cabinet. With due consideration, the federal cabinet greenlighted the appointment of Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar.
Tariq Malik’s Resignation and History
Former NADRA chairman Tariq Malik opted to vacate his position recently. Before stepping down, Malik formally met with the then Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, tendering his resignation. It’s noteworthy that Malik is currently under the scrutiny of the Federal Investigation Agency due to allegations of involvement in a corruption saga.
Malik’s journey with NADRA started on June 21 during the PTI government’s tenure. Interestingly, this wasn’t his first stint as NADRA’s chief. Back in 2013, the PML-N government briefly dismissed him. However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) promptly reinstated him. Following this, Malik resigned, attributing his decision to immense governmental pressure.
