The Lahore High Court has addressed separate petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the National Assembly, challenging the Election Commission’s (ECP) recount orders in their respective constituencies.
Saadullah Baloch from NA-97 Faisalabad and Azeemuddin Lakhvi from NA-133 Kasur are the PTI members who challenged the ECP’s decision in the Lahore High Court.
On March 27, the Election Commission had mandated a recount within three days and requested a detailed report from the Returning Officer. Represented by Sardar Latif Khosa, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, Saadullah Baloch contested this directive.
In response, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza of the Lahore High Court suspended the Election Commission’s decision regarding Baloch’s petition and issued a notice.
Simultaneously, in a related case, Justice Shahid Karim granted significant relief to Azeemuddin Lakhvi by upholding his petition against the vote recount in his constituency. Consequently, the court overturned the Election Commission’s decision to proceed with the recount in Lakhvi’s case, providing a notable victory for the PTI candidate.
